Meet the department...
This year is the first year that the English department at Kinlochbervie has, in fact, been a 'department'!
Susan Bewley had been working at the school for over six years as a sole teacher, before she was joined by Rachel Meiklejohn in August 2013. Rachel is a probationary teacher who completed her training last year at Jordanhill, in Glasgow.
Mrs Bewley and Miss Meiklejohn have been enjoying working with each other greatly, sharing a real love for language and literature that they are keen to pass on to every pupil.
As well as teaching Junior Phase classes (S1-3) as part of their Broad General Education, the English department offers courses to Senior Phase pupils, from National 3 or 4, up to Advanced Higher.
But the duo are not only found in the English classrooms, where they read dictionaries, recite poetry, and expostulate about misused apostrophes; they have also made their debut as folk-singers, with a Gaelic-lullaby duet at the school fundraising concert in November (in which Miss Meiklejohn sang the sweet verses...and Mrs Bewley sang the evil ones).
