National 4 English - The Course
The National 4 English course is comprised of four units:
· Analysis and Evaluation - reading and listening - responding to texts
· Creation and Production - writing and talking - making texts
· Literacy - reading, writing, talking and listening - being a good communicator
· The Added Value Unit - researching a topic - by understanding and evaluating texts, selecting relevant information, and presenting your findings.
Knowledge and understanding of language and its uses is central. A variety of learning and teaching methodologies are used to develop this knowledge. These may include:
· participation in group discussions
· teacher-led modelling/questioning
· listening for information
· short and extended written responses
· individual presentations
· peer assessment.
Assessment approaches
A wide range of evidence will be generated as pupils progress through the course, which is internally assessed. Evidence contributing to assessment may include recordings or notes of talking activities, presentations, critical essays, or extended writing.
