National 4 and National 5 are new qualifications, which are known as ‘Nationals’, and have been developed to support Curriculum for Excellence.

The new Nationals became available in August 2013. (For the sake of progression, the new Higher will be available in August 2014, and the new Advanced Higher will be available from August 2015.)
The National 4 course will not be graded. It will be internally assessed as pass or fail.
